Sierra Leone is one of the African countries with the highest population density. Sixteen ethnic groups live there: the two largest and most influential are the Temne and Mende tribes. About 2% of the country’s population are Krio, descendants of freed African American slaves. The name of the capital “Freetown” takes its name from the time of the abolition of slavery.
