Places in West Africa where life continues its course despite the echoes of the pandemic

A trip organized in Benin from 08 to 18 January 2021 by TransAfrica describes its reality.

From the airport to the hotel nothing has changed other than the request to comply with anti-covid measures. The covid test on arrival and departure.

City markets such as Dantokpa and Ganhi have not changed; friendly vendors, “Mikabowoo” here and there (Mikabowoo means Happy Arrival between us); we feel joy everywhere, no mistrust, on the contrary a warm welcome.

The Voodoo Festival has not been diminished in any way in its spiritual and cultural values.

The masks Egun Egun, Zangbeto, Sakpata were all at the appointment: same joy, same atmosphere.

In the center of the village, traditional houses seem to recognize us, a light wind through the thatched roofs, trees, even animals… everyone seems to say :“Welcome back, we are always at peace here”.

Celebrations and rituals  in the villages have maintained the same atmosphere; no social barriers; local leaders don’t know why we were absent. Behind us, we hear: “Come back !!!”
